Color your hair at home with Esalon

I had planned to share this post long before the ‘rona entered our lives, but it seems pretty timely to share it with you now as we are all learning how to go without or do things ourselves. Now more than ever I’m thankful that dealing with my gray roots is something I’ve been doing at home for years, thanks to Esalon. I stumbled across them when researching the best way to color at home that wasn’t a box off the drugstore shelf. I used enough of those through high school and college and knew they weren’t going to be great for my hair or give the results I wanted.

Esalon lets you get a fully customized color with quality products. You start off with a quiz about your hair type and color, and it even asks you to send in a picture so that they can recommend the right color to you. You can set your dye up on a subscription at whatever timeframe you’d like (mine is about every 8 weeks) and you’ll get a message from your stylist asking if you need to make any changes before it ships. I’ve tweaked my shade a bit over the years and they always come through - things like more ash tone, darker, etc.

It all comes shipped in the prettiest personalized packaging with everything you need - including 2 pairs of gloves, stain protection and removal, and shampoo and conditioner. The instructions are custom for every order too and have a sticker so you can put them right on your mirror.

If you follow me on instagram, you may have seen my very FANCY hair dyeing shirt. I keep it, along with any other hair dye supplies, in my bathroom cabinet and throw it on every time I do my hair. It saves me from accidentally ruining a towel or other shirt. It ain’t cute, but it gets the job done.

The whole process takes 45ish minutes (15 to apply, 30 to set), so it’s easy to do any night of the week after our kids go to bed.
